Scream VI Movie Review: The Return of Ghostface: What to Expect from Scream VI

With the release of the first movie in the “Scream” franchise, the Scream movie series became a well-known horror movie franchise. The series consists of three seasons of television and five main motion pictures. Now its sixth installment is ready to send chills down your spine. The Scream flick is renowned for its self-awareness and meta-humor with characters frequently making references to horror movie clichés and traditions. The movies usually center on a gang of teens who are being hunted and murdered by Ghostface, a killer who wears a mask.

Is it the Usual Storyline?

The sequel to the 1990s horror film Scream centers on a group of high school students who become the prey of an unidentified killer. The upcoming class of Woodsboro pupils will have to confront their concerns if they want to survive high school. It will be up to them to figure out who is hiding behind the mask and put an end to the craziness before it’s too late as secrets come to light and relationships are put to the test.
In true “Scream” fashion, Scream 6 isn’t set in usual Woodsboro – a small town in California but amidst fast-paced New York City. The kids are seeking a fresh start unfortunately their aspirations are soon shattered.
As true to the theme movie begins with the murder of a professor and soon the count rises. As the story unfolds the teens try to escape from the trap. Soon Samantha Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), her sister, Tara (Jenna Ortega), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad (Mason Gooding) try to free themselves from the clutches of new Ghostface along with revealing his identity.
Soon they are joined by the familiar faces from the series including Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed as well as other new characters like Anika (Devyn Nekoda), Josh (Danny Brackett), Ethan (Jack Champion), Quinn (Liana Liberato), and Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney).
As the killer was shown to be someone the audience had known all along, that unmasking became a vital draw of the last acts of each movie.
Due to its original take on the killer, Scream 6 brought back the slasher subgenre of the 1990s. The take is that murderer wasn’t a supernatural being instead, they were just regular people hiding behind a Halloween mask.
The murder-mystery twist the films gave the genre was what made Scream stand out. Viewers are left wondering about “Who is Scream or the Ghostface?” and if their favorite character would survive the massacre or not.

Direction and Cinematography

The highest-grossing Scream movie in the United States and Canada Scream VI became the first edition in the franchise to earn $100 million at the domestic US box office. In addition, record-breaking Scream VI rating it received the MTV Movie and TV Awards for Best Movie and Best Fight.
So what’s the secret?
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) and penned by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) Scream 6 has been highly anticipated for some time!
Scream VI 2023 portrays the tendency for anarchy to arise as a result of one person’s behavior toward a hazardous person or group that is out to terrorize a community. Horror fans can anticipate spooky homes, eerie streets, and gloomy forests filled with unexpected turns around every corner—just as in earlier entries in this cherished franchise.
Keeping the visual and esthetic appeal came as of Scream 5 intact, Scream 6 has managed to keep it unique. The subway visuals and transition to the new environment and characters kept the vitality alive. What is more engrossing is that fear is around every corner of the nested city and escape is unattainable.
Bringing the Ghostface to the contained and claustrophobic city setting was challenging but is what allowed Scream 6 to set a mark. The intensity and depth of the visuals and the secret and suspense kept the audience engrossed.

What can we expect from The Nun 2?
