The Archies, a film from Zoya Akhtar, will launch on Netflix in December.
The musical drama follows the well-known comedy characters as they investigate friendships, youth, and other topics in the swinging 1960s of India.
Recently, a release date was announced for Zoya Akhtar’s coming-of-age musical, The Archies. The movie, which will debut on Netflix on December 7, takes its cues from the universally adored Archie Comics characters and gives them an Anglo-Indian twist. The actors gathered for the reveal along Mumbai’s Western Express Highway to take pictures next to a billboard that has a countdown counting down the days before the premiere. The Archies was shot in December of last year, and Akhtar, Ayesha Devitre (Gehraiyaan), and Reema Kagti (Made in Heaven) are listed as co-writers.
As the movie chronicles the lives of Archie and Betty, Akhtar reimagines the fictional town of Riverdale via an Anglo-Indian perspective, situating it at a hill station in the swinging 1960s.
The Archies film releases on Netflix on December 7
Agastya Nanda plays the endearing Archie Andrews in the Netflix series The Archies. Archie is caught between his affections for Betty and Veronica. It is important to note that some or all of the characters may have different names than in the original comic book series due to the Anglo-Indian twist. Suhana Khan plays the wealthy and haughty Veronica Lodge, while Khushi Kapoor plays the kind-hearted Betty. Vedang Raina as the egotistical Reggie Mantle, Aditi ‘Dot’ Saigal as the aspiring hairdresser Ethel Muggs, and Mihir Ahuja as the ravenous Jughead Jones round out the cast. Strangely, his distinctive crown-shaped cap from the comics has been changed to a flat cap that looks like it belongs on Peaky Blinders. Akhtar’s own Tiger Baby company is co-producing The Archies movie.
