BTS Turns 10: An Extravagant Celebration Marks The Ceremony

BTS turned 10 on June 13 and is commemorating its tenth anniversary in South Korea’s capital, Seoul, by lighting up significant buildings in purple, synonymous with the group.  The celebration is marked by a two-week-long “2023 BTS Festa,” which includes activities and reminiscences regarding the K-pop group’s fame and accomplishments. BTS fans, popularly known as “Army”, wrote messages of congratulations on walls, billboards, and digital screens.  Hybe, a K-pop powerhouse, partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government on artwork commemorating the group’s accomplishments.

Further, over a dozen venues in Seoul have been designated as BTS-related attractions, including Yeouido Han River Park, where BTS leader RM will hold a live chat with fans. The festivities will also include pyrotechnics and the lighting of four bridges on the Han River in the same purple hue.

Know The Journey Of BTS

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a group of seven members: RM (formerly known as Rap Monster), Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They debuted in 2013 under the entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment, now known as HYBE Corporation.

The journey of BTS began with auditions held by Big Hit Entertainment in 2010 and 2011. The company’s founder and CEO, Bang Si-hyuk, saw potential in the seven members who eventually formed BTS. Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks, the members trained together for several years, honing their skills in singing, dancing, and rapping.

BTS initially gained attention through its social media presence, particularly on platforms like Twitter and YouTube. They actively engaged with their fans, known as the “Army”, by sharing behind-the-scenes content, cover songs, and original music.

In 2013, BTS officially debuted with the release of their single album “2 Cool 4 Skool” and its lead single, “No More Dream.” The album showcased their hip-hop and R&B influences while addressing the dreams, aspirations, and social issues faced by the youth. Though their debut received moderate success, it was their subsequent releases that helped them gain wider recognition.

BTS continued to release music and albums, incorporating various musical styles and experimenting with different genres. Their discography covers diverse themes such as youth, self-love, mental health, and societal issues, resonating with fans globally. Their breakthrough came with the release of “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2” in 2015, which spawned the hit single “I Need U.”

The group’s popularity skyrocketed with their subsequent albums, including “Wings” (2016) and “Love Yourself: Her” (2017). BTS became a global sensation, winning numerous awards and gaining a massive international fanbase. They topped the Billboard charts, performed at prestigious award shows, and embarked on successful world tours.

Their social impact and philanthropy are also noteworthy. BTS actively supports various charitable causes and has addressed important topics through their music, including mental health awareness and youth empowerment. They have collaborated with organizations like UNICEF and donated significant amounts to support social and educational initiatives.

In recent years, BTS has achieved remarkable success with albums like “Love Yourself: Tear” (2018), “Map of the Soul: Persona” (2019), “Map of the Soul: 7” (2020), and “BE” (2020). They have broken several records, including being the first Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their single “Dynamite” in 2020.

BTS’s influence extends beyond music, as they have become cultural icons and trendsetters. They have been recognized for their fashion choices, philanthropy, and positive messages of self-acceptance and unity. Through their music and performances, they have broken barriers, bridged cultures, and left a lasting impact on the global music industry.

Will BTS Return again?

Due to mandatory 18-month military duty, BTS has not performed as a whole group since mid-2022. Jin and J-Hope have begun military duty, while RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook will enroll. Instead of troops, Suga, the second eldest member, will conduct social service responsibilities. BTS is set to meet again in 2025. However, fans can still rejoice over the latest new single, “Take Two,” to celebrate their 10th anniversary.  What a fantastic way to celebrate, and the achievement is also enthralling – landing in Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart after gathering over 7.3 million streams in a single day
